ESPN: Was TCU-Baylor the best game of '11?

By David Ubben | ESPNDallas.com

The Big 12 football season got off to a pretty amazing start in 2011. I was there for it all, and I suspect several of you were watching, too.

But when the smoke cleared on the 2011 season, was that Friday-night thriller in September the best game of the entire season? It just may have been.

You can go cast your vote here. ...

Easily the best game. But, it was not broadcast on the ESPN Network. Therefore, to them, it does not exist.

TCU/SMU could have been on the list as well.

Uh,no, on the TCU/SMU game.

TCU/BAYLOR: First game of the season, historical rivals, coming out party for the eventual Heisman winner, CP announces his presence with authority, young but highly touted TCU team grows up right before your eyes, crazy comeback, extreme highs, extreme lows.

What does the TCU/SMU game have on that?

From a neutral perspective, the TCU-Baylor game was just as good as the TCU-Boise. A Heisman trophy candidate, controversial calls, a thunderous comeback by a team down 24 pts, a WR to QB pass on 3rd and 10 to keep the game winning drive alive, and a last second INT to end the game.

Worst called game of the century is not the best game of 2011. However the My Little Ponies would agree with you.

TCU vs. Boise State easily the best game in 2011. Two top 5 teams, Boise national championship run on the line, nine lead changes, missed field goal that won the game. Boise hasn't lost in their place for over 10 years or something crazy like that. If the names were UT vs. USC it would be called the best game of all time.

Huh? We were unranked in one poll and 24 in the other, iirc.
My father used to play with my brother and me in the yard. Mother would come out and say, "You're tearing up the grass."
"We're not raising grass," Dad would reply. "We're raising boys."

Well top teams. You love to be a buzz kill. Regardless, if it was #24 UT vs. #5 USC it would of still been called the best game of all time.

Too many of our fans like to downplay our importance. No other team has accomplished what we have so I think we have earned the right to blow our own horn.

Then why embellish?

That some believe the TCU-Baylor game was just as good from a neutral perspective as the TCU-Boise game says nothing about the "importance" of TCU. Either game could have made the list. They chose the Baylor game because it was on their network, had more history, had the whole "fluke comment" aspect, and it was a Heisman winner's coming out party (well, for now. nttawwt).

They are running the Top 25 college football games of 2011 on ESPNU this week. While I flipped to the current episode, "#21- Arizona St/Mizzou" I thought for a nano-second about TCU/Boise and then remembered what channel I was watching. It won't be ranked. Kind of funny really that a game that was easily top 5 won't be brought up. Couldn't really figure out which other ones would be at the top of the list from ESPN's point of view.

The TCU @ Boise game was arguably the most entertaining football game I've ever seen. It was right up there with the Boise/Oklahoma Fiesta Bowl.

The TCU/Baylor game was also an unbelievably entertaining game, but wasn't on the same level as the Boise game. And I'm not just saying that because we lost.

Boise game had everything. Missed FGs, TOs, 2 pt conversions.

Baylor game just had bad defense.

Game is in the bag

If ESPN doesn't own the rights to the TCU-Boise State game, how are they going to show it? They are filling time on ESPNU during a dead period.

Wasn't being a buzz kill. Just correcting an error, a large one, you made.

First you did not correct me. And second it was not a big mistake. We were in the top 25 and they were top 5 who hasn't lost a game at home for a long time. If this was #24 UT vs. #5 USC who hadnt been beaten in a long time at home this game would be called the best game of all time. Get over yourself.
