WCJ... what's this 'directional'  Louisiana Tech business.?.
a) Does that mean, Texas Tech, Georgia Tech and Virgina Tech are directional schools.?.
b) Is the term Tech more or less directional than Christian or Methodist.
c) So SMU is a directional school or is  USC one too....
d) Is Tech south/east/west/or north... or up or down.
e) Is it really necessary to belittle another institution to upgrade ourselves..?..
f) Never really liked this whole 'directional' nonsense, whenever it began in the 1st place.

Cheers !
My apologies to the University of Southern California.  I didn't mean to insult USC by referring to a fictional non-existent technical college in the outskirts of Louisiana.

Won't SMU be an AQ in 2013.. so there's your 2nd  AO and not a real road trip there either.

I meant AQ quality, not AQ in fact.

Yes, I get it now... Some are begining to sound pretty big about ourselves. Hmmmm...

a) So we should look for someone who could beat us in our own crib during an 11-2.season.
b) Someone who might have led us 2 years ago in the 3rd Qtr. during our #2 ranked season.
c) A team who can beat another AQ team like, lets say, Pittsburg  28-6 in a bowl game.
d) A team that has been to 3 bowl games in a row the last 3 seasons and went 2-1.

You are right... with our wimpy schedule, we should be adding and  traveling cross country to play home to home with a perenial top 25 team every year, in place of SMU.  What are we thinking......

Cheers !

I asked you questions and you're response was like a litle typical spoiled brat Trojan ... avoiding all questions.

Where's Roddog when you need him .... So we almost got our wholeasses handed to us by a fictional non-existent football program that could have knocked us out of the top 15 if not the top 25... who also beat one SEC team and almost another
( LT more yardage) SEC team... and did this on the road.

That potential loss  could have really started a lot of unpleasant things to snowball downwards for us... none least recruiting.

Cheers !

So lets replace a game that only a few people care about with one that no one cares about! Genius!  Sorry, I'd rather see TCU / SMU than directional Louisiana Tech.
If we become what everybody here thinks we have, a national brand. Then people will care about our games , regardless if it's smu. Btw, people aren't showing up because it's Iron Skillet Weekend. (never even heard it called that).  Its a non event.
When the bcs is done we will be done with the smu series and you'll be grateful that Tcu didnt contract for a ten year period. We won't need SOS in the future.

^^This.

Like it or not SMU is climbing the ladder and clawing their way up like TCU had to do the past ten years.  They are a small private university in Texas who finally got a coach that knows what he's doing and are starting to put together some winning seasons.  Sound familiar?

SMU provides another away game to which locals can travel to watch, a chance to beat a team that will have a winning record with a trip to a bowl game, and a soon to be AQ check mark on the schedule.  Tell me again the logic behind dropping the game.....because I don't get it.

You Make it sound like the game is the Iron Bowl. It's not. We have plenty of games in Texas now. If your too lazy to go to ft worth , Waco , Lubbock or Austin then that's on you.
Smu needs the Texas games not us.

SMU fits what is the LRBWHCGMFP's scheduling philosophy. Plus it is a rivalry with a name and a prize. We will play a FCS school, a mid-level BCS school and SMU in the 10-team league then go into tough conference play.

Laid out there. Same philosophy most schools in big conferences use.

That wasn't a philosophy. That was a routine. Whatever it was it went out the door when we changed conferences and it will be further changed when the bcs is gone.

Problem seems to be not that we play SMU but that we have a growing contingent of spoiled, entitled fans.  Lest we forget they actually beat us last year.  And the previous year (you know, when we fnished #2 in the country) was no walk in the park either.  If they were the whipping boy we (myself included) like to look at them as they wouldn't have been able to stay on the same field with us.  Not the case.

Easy there trigger....Getting a little worked up aren't you?

I said nothing to imply it was some mystical game promising fairies and pots of gold.  Simply put, it's a regular game against a now quality opponent with whom we have almost 100 years of history.  What's not to like about that?

Hell, in 2009 when we went to the Fiesta Bowl, the SMU game was no walk in the park either.  Last three games against them have been grinders.

You are hitting it right on the head.  Because we have pretty much been consistently good/dominant the past few years, people are getting plenty spoiled and going with that we are too good for some people.

SMU is pretty much where we were in the late 90s/early 2000s starting to get a good thing going on a consistent basis along with trying to get fans aboard.  And people better not get on their high horse about the attendance issue there because we had the exact same problems in the recent past that they are having with attendance right now - not enough in-state/rivalry games given the conference they are/were in (and unfortuantely will likely continue in the Big East) while still putting up respectable records.

I hope just because we aren't at that point anymore (in a good way) that we just don't want to play them for that reason.  SMU is now starting to be a tough out year-in and year-out in getting a win.  Sure I'd like to pummel them every year, I'd like to pummel everybody on schedule, but I'm glad they are finally competitive on a consistent basis now.

I don't think any less of Whittingham not wanting to play BYU anymore, but I'm all for rivalry games.  It'd be unfortunate if those two schools stopped playing each other, and it'd be unfortuante if TCU/SMU stopped playing each other consistently.

In addition, while I personally don't care about perception or what others think, I can guarantee you if TCU stops playing SMU often while we are good and SMU is finally coming around, there will be plenty of chicken/coward talk, fair or not.

Play smu or not, the thought process by the Utah coach is correct.  Starve your rival by striking at their legitimacy to try and make them irrelevant as compared to you.  Helps in perception and recruiting.

Like it or not, if the shoe was on the other foot, smu would drop us in a heartbeat.

Thank you.  The entitled group are the people that want the game to continue. They are not making a business decision.

Well, if you think we are going to schedule Alabama, Ohio State and Oregon as our three OOC games playing in the B12 you are going to disappointed. We don't have to worry about SOS anymore. If you have an issue with it, take it up to LRBWHCGMFP.
