FWST: TCU sells out season football tickets for first time

By Stefan Stevenson
sstevenson@star-telegram.com

A perfect storm of winning, joining a new conference and renovating a stadium has excitement at a fever pitch surrounding TCU football. And fans are putting their money where their excitement is.

TCU sold out its general admission seating Wednesday and surpassed 30,000 season ticket holders for the 2012 season.

It's an astonishing feat when you consider the Horned Frogs had a little more than 13,000 season ticket holders three seasons ago.

"It speaks volumes of the Horned Frog nation," TCU athletics director Chris Del Conte said. "I'm so proud of TCU, our fans, our student-athletes and our coaches. It's just a great day to be a Horned Frog."

And thanks to TCU fans buying tickets for Tech fans like roddog who cannot afford them. Very shameful.

Now the attendance smack will shift to this: "you guys don't even have the majority of your own fans at your home games...."

Or to this

"anyone can sell out a 45k stadium. Try selling out an 80k+ stadium."

In other words, it doesn't matter what happens, the smack never ceases.

A famous football coach and his wife were talking...
Wife: You love football more than me.
Football coach: You're right, wife, but I love you more than baseball and basketball.

Or because the article included a list of our top 10 largest crowds, the smack will be, "TCU only has one home crowd of 50,000 in the history of its program." Wish the ST hadn't printed that top 10 list. Just doesn't do us any favors by continuing to bring up attendance problems. Would be nice to be able to have a crowd of at least 50,000 squeeze into the stadium this year, but don't know if that will be possible.

All through the winter of '43, we had translators working in joke-proof conditions to try and produce a German version of the joke. They worked on one word each for greater safety. One of them saw two words of the joke and spent several weeks in hospital. But a part from that, things went pretty quickly, and we soon had the joke by January in a form which our troops couldn't understand, but which the Germans could.

Well, I guess I'll get a refund on that deposit. May never become a season ticket holder with this foolish buy-as-many-as-you-want system. Eff this.

Yeah, I fully expect attendance smack to shift to stadium capacity smack. That's about all the haters have left.

TCU estimates 45K but is holding back about 12K (4K visitors, 5K students, 2.1K ADA, staff, etc).  Where did the other 4K go?  Even if the two per row end up being there they only add about another 1.5K?  Oh well.

CDS, when the Stadium is finished, why don't you go out there and count every seat and report back to us.  Don't forget to have the measurements for a standard wheel chair so you can measure and count the ADA spaces.

I'm still confused.  How can we sell-out a 45K seat stadium with 30K season tickets?  Looks like there should be some seats somewhere.
