Unless I misread the article (very possible), it didn't say Bill Nye read from Genesis during the lecture.

You misread it. It did say he introduced the issue of Genesis.

But nothing got people as riled as when he [Nye] brought up Genesis 1:16

Who else besides the lecturer do you think was speaking at this lecture?

Clearly the Moon cannot be reflecting the light of the Sun, for as we all know, both orbit the Earth

inane adj \i-ˈnān\: lacking significance, meaning, or point; silly <What an inane question>

Actually, it wasn't inane. TopFrog was saying that the people who wrote the Bible couldn't know the difference because science at the time of them writing the Bible didn't know that the moon was just reflecting the sun's light.

My point, which wasn't inane, was that it wouldn't matter if modern science (at the time of the writings) had figured it out, because it wasn't really the humans putting their own knowledge in the Bible, they were transcribing what God told them. And of course God would know, because God is omniscient.

I didn't read that part, I was just assuming the people who got up in a huff knew what Genesis said and disagreed with him. It just seemed ridiculous that Nye would bring it up. So he clearly did have an agenda.

I was wrong, but I appreciate the condescending tone in your last question

You're confusing the dictation theory of biblical inspiration, which is held by almost nobody, with the plenary inspiration theory, which is held by many. Conflating a fringe view with a major view is inane. It's also a straw man.

It's a matter of perspective. Refute a point with a plain fact, and the person who's shown wrong get his feathers ruffled and says "condescending." It's really the only response left.
