FWST: TCU baseball indefinitely suspends three freshmen

Freshmen Braden Mattson, Chris Murphy and Michael Resnick were indefinitely suspended for violating team rules, TCU coach Jim Schlossnagle said.

Mattson was hitting .190 in 27 games, including 14 starts, but had been battling a hamstring injury the last few weeks.

Murphy, a pitcher, made five appearances, his last coming April 1. Resnick played in 11 games, including three starts at first base, and was batting .083. His last appearance was April 1.

Schlossnagle did not say if or when the players would be reinstated. All three, especially Mattson, figured big in TCU's future.

Fwpd has an undercover officer checking into the equestrian team. One more chance to take TCU down.

Does it matter?

Serious enough "break of team policy" that there names are off the roster, don't sit the bench, won't be back in 2012 and 2013 is not a certainty.

In the college baseball world of limited scholarships and high expectations it might be looked upon as a good thing when three kids who aren't really contributing give you a reason to show them the door.  Just one guy's opinion.

Didn't realize they weren't on the roster. Wow. One can only assume.

Give all three of their scholarships to Morrison.

And yet the Lions signed him to an undrafted free agent contract.

Wow.
At TCU, we turn 2-star recruits into 4-star players.

I had hopes for Mattson especially considering I have no idea what Elander is doing after this season (any idea?). As for the other 2, I agree

Elander is as good as gone after 2012... probably.

Mattson has excellent defensive ability, but is just lost at the plate. Great athlete.

Resnick doesn't have a place on this team when it is healthy, imho. Maybe in the future if his bat continues to move forward.

For 2013 catcher, somebody from this list: Mattson, Wright, Suiter, BOOOMER!, and Odell (yes, I am serious)

Sweet Jesus that sucks. A lot of people seem convinced he will stay considering how many problems he has had as a catcher, not at the plate. What round do you think he will be drafted. 2nd/3rd?

I guess good that they are freshmen who have not contributed much as opposed to established veterans. Easier to replace in the event they are not reinstated. Really bad for Mattson but as the article said all were considered key additions for the future.

I mean, I wouldn't draft him this high, but he will likely go in the first five rounds. With the new rules he won't chance coming back to improve his stock, he would have no leverage then and I doubt he would get that much better. 2013 isn't the "year" anyways, 2014 is.

What do you mean by the year? Referencing what year TCU baseball should be great again? We were expected to be excellent this year but our complete failure of developing our hitters has turned what could have been an awesome team into an average one. I still feel like Keaton Jones could become a very decent hitter with a good coach to help him develop. Also Derek Odell. If we can ever learn to hit consistently we would be awesome with how good our pitching staff is.
