FrogHorn at the new ACS

Pretty much seems like we're letting the tail wag the dog here.
I can understand (somewhat) the issue of live animals (stupid shetland ponies, Baylor's Bear - The Judge, and the smelly cow from Austin), but we're talking about a Horn.
Its not going to bite, defecate, or gore anyone.
The stupid Allsnakes net takes up more room with more handlers in cowgirl hats.
Sorry, I thought the Froghorn would be a non-issue. Guess not.

There was talk of it being on a raised platform, but I guess that isn't going to happen. Too bad, it was great tradition that appears is going to die from lack of noise being behind the south scoreboard.

If not, then having it anywhere else is just wrong!
Dammit...

With all due respect to everyone involved in creating the frog horn and maintaining it, am I the only one on this board that thinks it's a little tacky? i remember every HS football game I played in, every team had some kind of horn... when TCU scores and I hear it, that's what I'm reminded of... when TCU was playing in a stadium with 20k people in it and couldn't make a ton of noise, the frog horn helped add to the excitement and filled the noise void.. well, we're going to have 40k plus moving forward, its just not needed anymore.
we're big time now.. name one school that has some kind of train horn when they score, cuz I can't think of any... cannon's are fine (UT, etc).. i do think that's what the program and department are trying to eventually do

So then what's the difference between a cannon and the FrogHorn? They both make noise. Ours is unique (ESPN called it 'the most unique in college football') - which should be a reason to keep it, not get rid of it. And if it irritates people (and I have visitors in mind here), even better. I, for one, would be disappointed if it were to be shelved. Like the Boise blue turf (and God knows THAT irritates people), it is part of us now.

As for where it goes, I think putting it on the concourse is a good idea - allows for a little more interaction between it and the fans. But its a minor point, IMO.

cannons only last one second, not 6... i like it when our team runs out of the tunnel and every once in a while, but sometimes i just think it's tacky that's all
all in all, if we're going to have it, it needs to be on the field...

I think it's kind of silly, for lack of a better word, to say that the cannon in Austin (?) or any sort of noisemakers at other programs are cool while the horn is lame. The horn has some historical significance for us in Fort Worth and aside from all that the darn thing really hammers home the point that, "hey! we scored on you.. again!...and again!"
To have nothing I think would be a mistake and to copy other schools with, say a cannon of our own would be an even bigger mistake. I would certainly love to see the horn remain on the field somewhere but if that isn't possible then I think on the concourse in either the SE or SW corner is fine too.

I am a Fort Worth-based songwriter who graduated from TCU in 2009.

Absolutely right. And while we're at it, let's get rid of that disgusting little horned creature. I mean really... a lizard? for a mascot? It's just so revolting and gauche.
The purple is getting a little dated too. It was a popular fashion color the last few years, but it's definitely on its way out. In a year, it will be tacky as well. We need a new school color to go with all the hot new fall fashions.

So basically your argument is that we should have nothing that is distinctive to TCU and sets us apart. We should be just like the rest of the faceless masses. "Cannons are fine" because so many other schools have them, and if we had a cannon, we would be indistinguishable from them. But a train horn isn't okay, because almost nobody else has one and it singles us out. After all, how can we be a big-state-school-wannabe if we don't ape everything the big state schools do?
Come to think of, I can't think of even one other school that has a horned frog for a mascot. That will definitely have to go. It sets us apart too much.
This is your vision for what TCU Football should become?
No thank you.

These Frogs have horns!

“Show me,” Flaherty said. “Hit that receiver in the eye.”
To which Baugh supposedly responded, “Which eye?”

No, it's not tacky. Is it unique? Yes. Is that a reason to get rid of it? No, that's a reason to keep it and not only keep it, but for it to continue in its prominent spot.
I can't believe some of the stuff that gets posted on here. What other school has a live cow besides UT? What other school is a Nitany Lion, Buckeye, or Crimson Tide. Should they all change their mascot to be a "Bear" so they are not unique and don't cause any creativity concerns for sport's marketing?
The Frog Horn belongs on the field where the team enters. I get that this is an enterprise where money rules all but we can do that without moving the Frog Horn just to clear space for the endzone add banners which is what this is all about.
