It appears the entire lower bowl (east side) has been reserved for students. Is this correct? My old seats were 40 yrdl, 20 rows up but were never available. Is this normal to give students such prime seats? This is nice upgrade for students being upper level goalie to taking my old 40 yardline seats. How many were reserved for students? How many students do we estimate will show? BU, Tech, UT certainly didn't give students lower bowl 50 yardline. Thanks for input. Sorry if already discussed. Just sad to see my old seats go, not to mention sad to be booted to endzone after years of nice seats. Thx

Yeah I think this could be a major mistake by the administration. I could understand giving the students the first 10 rows all along the lower bowl and then reserve a section towards the end zone on one side on the 200 level. That would have been smarter.

Do you know what it was reduced to?

For example, If they went from 6,000 seats on the upper level goaline to 5,000 seats on lower level 50....that is still strange and a big upgrade

This is what Gary suggested.
At TCU, we turn 2-star recruits into 4-star players.

I think it's a great idea. The most vocal students get to be directly behind the opposing bench. Reducing the seciotn by about 1K is perfect because the student section with average attendance seemed to be a bit too big in old ACS.

The old student section was about the 35 to the end zone form row 1 to the top. Now they will be in the lower section which will keep them from encroaching on the season ticket holders above them.

According to FWST, students got 5k - 6k
Seems amazing with student body of only 7k

This was decided months ago, why bring it up now? Judging by the attendance and complaining by those on the east side, the seats will probably be put to better use by students.

Not from the empty student section we've seen over the past 5-10 yrs.
Do we really think 6k of our 7k student body will go to every game?
I bet 6k (86%) aren't even in town on any given weekend and no way do we get 100% turnout.
The downside of this student upgrade is pushing some long time loyal fans, donors, etc out. I am openly bitter about relocating to endzone.

Interesting. It looks like BU kids got two sections near 50, but not the entire lower side. I trust in GP, but if he only knew how loud Goo was on gameday he would have let me keep old seats. I literally had to move my season tickets because was told I was too enthusiastic for west side and asked to move a few yrs ago.

Baylor also has a doormat football program, a cheat of a Heisman trophy winner, and virtually no shot of winning the Big 12 any given year. Their attendance is naturally less than TCU.

True, Baylor not a good example because if stadium only half full alot easier to get seats. I wonder of they have 30k season ticket holders like TCU? I doubt it.

Basically the student would have needed priority pint level above 700 to get those seats between 40's.
It will be interesting to see if this section is full or not.
Also, will kids pass ID's to game system.
God, I sound like a grumpy old man. I might just need to get a few fake student ID's and take back my seats. I'm sure scenery is best in the house.

Student section is 5100 seats. I counted it previously.

Better seats will encourage the students to come and it encompasses less than 12% of capacity of the stadium.

Yes more students are going to show up to watch big 12 teams than the crap they had to watch last year. Also if you think they are going to regulate the student section, you are nuts. If you wear purple you can sit there.

2012 will feature a better stadium, better home slate (both in caliber of opponent and importance of game), better start times, and a better location that is both ideally situated and sized for the student body's needs.

Implying that the turnout and student interest for 2012 would be like it was for 2011is probably inaccurate at best.

Huh? Why would you give your ID to anyone? You can't do anything on campus without it.

No one saying there isn't more interest in opponents... That is obvious

Tell me more about better start times?

Well considering that in 2011 all games were noon starts.. even in september.. that kept many students away or at the game for a quarter or two at most.

This fall we're bound to have more afternoon and night games which are good for student attendance because they're not 100+ degrees and most humans young and old prefer that..

Combine that with above factors and we'll be in good shape.
