The Catholic church seems to always confuse the social gospel with socialism. They made the same mistake 3 years ago when the climbed in bed with Obama.

I hope they were using protection...

Obama's going to win this fight.

1) You can't effectively label a conciliator a dictator. He's willing to make corrections and changes.

2) The plan is great for choice. Women are contacted directly by the insurance company and offered the coverage. It isn't automatically part of the plan.

This won't satisfy the bishops, and they won't be smart enough to understand that their dissatisfaction with it will make them look like the ones who want to dictate and control behavior.

It seems to me that if Obama had just come out with this position in the first place then there would not have been such a backlash.

I usually regret this asking about these blanket statements, but here it goes.......

And you base this on.....?

I don't know if we can assume that. It might have still been something that the anti crowd would have been offended by, and then he would have no fall back position that protected the workers.

In this case, he made a move towards a practical solution that bishops can't effectively argue against.

Really a pretty good compromise. Insurance companies want women to have contraception- cheaper for them in the long run. Employees want contraception. If employers have an ethical issue with providing that coverage, they are off the hook this way. Everybody wins.

Really for me, it just is another reason why we should uncouple health insurance and employment.

Then you weren't paying attention 3 years ago when so many Catholic leaders supported Obama and socialized medicine. Sorry you missed that, but not surprised.

Very true. The only reason this was an issue was because the employer negotiates the policy. If we severed that tie then people can do whatever they want.

I also feel that if policies were written on a case by case basis then people can decide what deductibles and limits make sense to them. Additionally, consumers would be much more aware of the cost of health care, since insurance is just a payment vehicle, and they might realize that it might be better to have an small office surgery to remove a mole at $300 versus an outpatient surgery at $7,000.

And you missed where most of the Catholic bishops (you know, the leaders of the chruch here in America) came out and said the primary issue (although not the only) for Catholics in casting their vote should be abortion. Or that among church going Catholics the '08 vote was split right down the middle.

But I'm not surprised. You can't help yourself. You're one of those 'If you're not 100% with me, you're against me' type of people.

How is it you youngsters put it? ROFLMAO?

http://www.thenewamerican.com/index.php/usnews/health-care/4065-obamacare-abortion-funding-has-begun

In fact, just this past October, your buddy threatened to veto any legislation that restricted federal funding for abortion.

http://news.yahoo.com/white-house-threatens-veto-bill-prohibiting-abortion-funding-201606516.html

Seriously, you and RS really need to keep up better with things. Face it, when obamacare was being debated, many Catholic leaders supported with the understanding the contraception and funding of abortion would not be forced on them. As I said earlier, there is the social gospel and socialism...and the Catholic Church seems to often get the two mixed up.
