I am amazed that two very bright, well-educated and hip persons on this forum have now misspelled the name of one of my favorite all-time movie stars! It is Pepe LePEW! That's like citing john wane or Marilyn Munro. Geez.

your favorite all time movie star was a cartoon skunk???

There is no answer to that question.  My shrink says that I am trying to seek out attention by emotionally re-living my straightlaced wallflower youth as a wild vixen in the safe confines of this fantasy environment.

Just kidding, after listening to the two shrinks on here go on about fencing and dehydrated Frenchmen you think I would pay money for a shrink's advice?

while the fencer and I spent time in grad school together at TCU in the psych department getting our psych Ph.D.s, most of my knowledge of clinical psychology came from Bob Newhart and Ann Landers.

No love for Dr. Phil?  Anybody else ever play the Bob Newhart drinking game?

Anybody know where I can find bedside tables that would match this bedroom furniture?  It was my grandmother's when she was a teenager.  The problem I'm having is that it is wood which matches nothing that is made today.

Perhaps oldscribe would have a vector on a "mid-50s ugly furniture" outlet.

More than old; they are dead. Though those on the silver screen never die in our memories. Or on Turner Classic Movies. Take your pick.

I will not even share with you on a family website what Miz Scribe and I, in our antiquing days, would have called that stuff. But good luck finding a match. No joke, try second hand places (there's a good one in FW called ``Second Glance'') or, sad to say, antique malls (sadly, to some dealers, if it is older than last year it can be antique). We dealt in 19th C. American country stuff and frequently got asked for something ``real old, like 1970?"

I probably only like it because it was my grandmother's but I do like it.  We have some nicer furniture from her as well that was her mother's.  A Duncan Phyfe dining room set minus the broken chairs and a couple of family made tables.  There is a really cool, or at least I think so, drop front desk that is to be sold in her estate.

Wasn't mocking you or granny, Doc.......we have stuff in our house that no one else would like, believe me.  It just always left a bad taste when 1940s=70s furniture would turn up as if it were antique. We took the word ``antique'' seriously. Maybe too seriously. Indeed, when I think of MY grandmother's house and her furniture (and she died in 1962) it wasn't anything to write home about, either.

I think my grandma would have knocked me down if had ever referred to her as granny. biggrin.gif She wasn't as bad as some of my mom's grandparents who were only to be referred to as grandmother and grandfather.  Of course that is all part of my Yankee family from the New Jersey/Pennsylvania/Delaware area.

The table in the second picture might also not be much but it is cool because I think one of my grandmother's uncles made it.  The first one is falling apart and came from the same family.  The china cabinet or whatever it is was my great-grandmother's (ignore the crappy ugly china resting where it sat when it came out of the box from moving).  These photos also show that it all seriously needs to be dusted better after sitting in storage.
