Coleman signs 6th-round tender
Associated Press
NEW YORK -- Backup cornerback Drew Coleman, a restricted free agent, has signed his sixth-round tender with the New York Jets.
Coleman signed the one-year tender, worth $1.176 million, on Wednesday, leaving running back-kick returner Leon Washington as the Jets' only remaining unsigned restricted free agent.
Coleman, a sixth-round pick out of TCU in 2006, started one game last season and finished with 22 tackles and four passes defensed primarily as a backup. He has 77 tackles, two sacks and an interception in four NFL seasons.

Good for Drew. A poor kid from Henderson now making more than $1 million. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

How many years do you have to be in the league to be eligible for the NFL pension?

The NFL's pension plan covers every eligible player (meaning he played four years in the league) since 1920. That four-year requirement drops to three for players in the league after 1992. Full benefits are available at the age of 55, with a minimum payout of $200 a month for each season played in the NFL. IOW - Drew's eligible now.
The new CBA probably won't change eligibility requrements for current players, but they'll probably change benefits and eligibility for older players.
Vulgarity is like art - everybody thinks they know what it is, yet nobody can agree on what it is.

For those of us (me) that honestly don't know, what is a "sixth round tender"?

Teams can offer contracts to their restricted free agents in amts based on when they were drafted in order get compensation should that player sign with another team.
