Obviously we don't have the need as of today to build like duke or UNC, but it's interesting to see programs that have stellar facilities even with less than stellar on court play historically.

From looking at these pictures I have to say we are light years behind other schools. I still think our arena is good, the problem is with everything else. Tubbs loved DMC, he said when DMC was packed there wasn't a better place to play. I'll never forget when he turned the heat up before we played Purdue, their kids "melted".

Is this thread supposed to be some kind of news flash?  Because Del Conte has been saying for like two years that our basketball facilities are in need of serious attention. and that this is the next priority after the football stadium.  It has been hashed and rehashed on this board at least 200 times.

We apologise again for the fault in the subtitles. Those
responsible for sacking the people who have just been sacked
have been sacked.

Here is the dilemma - no one really cares. I knew a lot of people who had never watched basketball and did not know the rules. If these are the kind of people were are graduating there will never be a push to have a good team. You can only be good when the fans care.

As a regular ol' fan, I don't benefit from much that they put into these new arenas.  I've never sniffed a luxury box in any venue.  Wide concourses are nice but what we have never stopped me from going.  I always seemed to make it to my seat with no problem.  I may have to use the restroom from time to time but when I did, I never noticed that we didn't have luxury urinals.  Still was able to pee ok.  I can see the restroom problem from a women's point of view.  I like the TV's at the concession stands but if it's a tight game, I don't leave to get something to drink and the food there is generally garbage.  You may spend 2 hrs in that building for a game.  Except for the arms race, I could care less what the building looks like.  I must admit that, by nature, I am more draw to the old arenas than the new ones.  When I go to a college campus to look around, I look for the old arenas to explore, not the new ones.

I, too am mystified.  We have spent hundreds of millions of dollars improving the campus, the football stadium, baseball field, locker rooms; have excellent tennis, track and soccer venues.  The athletic department realizes the basketball venue needs major improvement and is actively planning and raising money for it.  What more do they want????

They sound like spoiled children who want everything NOW!!

What more can the athletic department do?  Stop working on ACS and put the money into basketball?

Didnt you hear? Nothing is going to happen. It's been almost 3 months since CDC said it was priority. Apparently that means it's never going to happen

Man you guys having a bad Sunday? I just thought it would be interesting to show how nice some schools bball facilities are. Nowhere in my posts was I whining or griping like you all are implying.

I just thought some would like to see the photos I found on that thread. Pardon me for offening your delicate sensibilities.

It's a factual statement. A gripe would be, "ugh, TCU doesn't measure up, why is nothing being done?"

I knew that we are working on it. Thus why I don't ask about the progress.

I didn't realize how far behind we were getting til i saw the pics and I thought others may want to see em too. My sincere apologies for not consulting you first though.

How about "TCU basketball doesn't measure up"?

Do you realize how easy it is to get into the 68 team tourney and even easier to get into the NIT, yet TCU rarely sniffs either (how many years now since the last NCAAs?).  How about showing you deserve significant funds before you spend?  Look how that worked in football.

Basically, if I was a large donor and they came to me for funds for a new bball facility I'd tell them get a coach first, one that can occassionally get the team to the NCAAs, then ask.

I do understand we are redoing the floor itself with possibly a new look, and obvioulsy have to add the Big XII logo.

Froghair's post is exactly correct.  Basketball is a two hour game.  Older arenas hold lots of interest.  I bet there won't be a vacant seat next year whether we have a good team or not.  If we can pick up two real difference makers then we will have a good team and for sure there won't be any vacant seats.  A full DMC is a great venue for basketball.

Now if DMC sells out like I think it will with the Big12, then the administration will look seroiusly at a new arena.  Until then there are better places for TCU to spend its money.

A gripe is also repeating a negative fact for the 1,000 and first time for no reason.  If TCU were ignoring this issue, there would be good reason.  But since TCU is addressing it, only reason to keep repeating it is for the gripe.

Honestly wasn't trying to offend.  Just get tired of logging on here to see the same old crap repeated over and over -- particularly the whines.  Sometimes it's like visiting a daycare center.

The point of the thread is to show what other schools have, compared to what we have.  And, damn, those pictures in the OP are pretty dang nice.  I was thinking those photos of Trojan Arena were for USC when I first saw them, not Troy.  Just a flat out amazing thread all around.

That said, it's important to remember that new facilities are not by any means a guarantee of improved performance.  Look at Penn State's arena, for goodness' sake.  I'm as excited for a DMC renovation as anyone, but it's not gonna happen tomorrow, nor should it.

There have been posters on this board saying that basically all DMC needs is a fresh coat of paint. I think the post was warranted (not that it needed a justification). Maybe those people will open their eyes a little bit.
