High School Playoffs of interest week ended 11-29-2009

Still lots of High School playoff action and still lots of players with TCU interest involved.  Here are just a few you may want to catch if in the area:

Friday

Class A:

Sunray vs New Deal 7:30 Friday at Canyon Kimbrough-TCU commit Stephen Bryant has been on a tear all season and don’t expect him to slow down.  Bryant has been dominating on both sides of the ball and looking forward to a Cayuga vs New Deal final.

Post game: injuries forced Stephen Bryant to watch this game, but New Deal rallies from a 28-10 fourth quarter deficit to win 32-28.  3rd straight game shoulder injuries forced Bryant out though he thought he would go this week.

Cayuga vs Lovelady 7:30 Friday at Whitehouse.  Cayuga is led by Traylon Shead but TCU still looking at DB Billy Duncan. 

Post game: Cayuga wins 38-29 as Traylon Shead becomes the UIL all-time TD leader after scoring 3 TDs.

Class AA

Callisburg vs Caddo Mills 7:30 Friday at Denton Collins:  TCU recruit Nathan Jeffrey has over 2,800 yards and 46 TDs so far this season for Caddo Mills.

Post Game:  Nathan Jeffrey scores twice to briefly tie Jacquizz Rodgers as the all-time UIL TD leader, but is passed by Traylon Shead.  Jeffrey had 41 carries the prior week and 34 this game and seemed to run out of gas as Callisburg beats Caddo Mills 33-12.

Class AAA

Argyle vs Texarkana Pleasant Grove 7:30 Friday at Royce City: TCU commit David Johnson leads the stiff Argyle defense.

Post game: Pleasant Grove’s Antonio Graves accounts for 438 yards of offense and Argyle picked off 3 times and losses 35-19.

Carthage vs Caldwell 7:30 friday at Corsicana: Top 2011 linebacker recruit Kendall Thompson leads the state champs on defense.

Post game: Carthage goes up 42-0 pulls its starters and wins a shoot-out 56-41

Class AAAA

Highland Park vs Waxahchie 7:30 Friday at Kinkaide Stadium; Waxahachie lead by junior LaDarius Brown who plays WR and DB.  He is one of the best for 2011 and TCU among his early favorites but UT the leader.

Post game: Brown has 3 catches for 96 yards & 2 TDs as the Indians beat the Scots 49-35.

Class AAAAA

Arlington Bowie vs Southlake Friday 7:30 at SMU: TCU 2011 commit Cameron White leads the Bowie attack on offense.

Post game: White has 10 catches for 170 yards and Bowie pulls the big upset 45-21

Abilene vs Cedar Hill 2:00 Friday at Birdville: Herschel Sims is 2011 TCU recruit and leads the potent Abilene rushing attack that often uses the wildcat formation.

Post game: Sims has 30 carries for 276 yards and 4 TDs (all TDs out of the wildcat) as Abilene ends Cedar Hills run 41-17.

Saturday: 

Class AA

Daingerfield vs Winn East Chambers 8:00 Lufkin: 2011 recruit Steve Edmonds of Daingerfield is one of the best LBers in the state and favors TCU.

Post game: Daingerfield rolls 64-14

Class AAA

Gilmer vs Navasota 2:00 Saturday Lufkin TCU still in the hunt for Navasota’s big OT Aleon Calhoun and Gilmer’s senior QB Darian Godfrey is lighting it up.

Post game: Godfrey has 258 yards total offense and throes 4 TD passes as the Buckeyes beat the Rattlers 42-35

Class AAAA

Beaumont Central vs Friendswood 1:00 Baytown Stallworth Senior LBer Beau Barnes is having a breakout season and favors TCU.

Post game: Friendswood upsets Central 44-22.

Class AAAAA

Skyline vs Houston Cy-Woods: 6:00 Temple Wildcat 2011 LBer Anthony Wallace of Skyline will face 2010 offeree Bryce Callahan of Cy-Woods.

Post game: Callahan & Cy-Woods pull off the huge upset 28-21.  Callahan has one TD receiving and a key pick to seal the victory.

Tyler Lee vs Round Rock Stony Point: 7:30 Waco ISD TCU commits on both sides with Blake Roberts of Lee and Kevin White of Stony Point.

Post game: Stony Point trails at half-time 16-7 but rallies to win 27-23.

Other performances of interest:

Aledo’s super soph Johnathan Gray has 137 yards & 2 TDs as they beat Parkewr Bridwell’s & Hereford 35-13.

2010 RB Tyler McCray has 155 yards rushing and 2 TDs on 15 carries as Lonview beat Carrollton Newman Smith and it super WR Al Lasker 28-25.
