Recruiting update-its scary good!!!!!

Not a lot happening though the last few games have brought in a lot of visitors and a ton of interest in the program.  With 5 slots remaining to be filled it will be interesting how this class finishes.  In addition the recruiting for 2010 is in full swing and already interest from many of the top recruits in the nation.

2009

Slots needed to be filled are WR and CB and the remaining 3 will be to fill some gaps and add depth, very good depth.  Coaches appear to be looking at another OL, a TE who could possibly shift to DE and a few JUCOs at RB or DL.

The WR slot has been the trickiest though Josh Boyce could be the stud already committed.  It looks as though TCU no longer in the running for AJ Dugat though there is a slight possibility there.  Derrick Rainey is my pick to fill the slot and the QB from Northbrook is close to a decision.  The other options include Brownwood’s Parker TaylorChance Casey from Crosby or Evangel’s Quinn Giles.

At CB it looks to be down to Kerry Lewis of Lancaster with Desmond Gardiner of Port Arthur of Waco La Vega’s Chad Ward still in the picture.

The TE/DE position is very interesting and has some late comers being given some looks.  Jerod Monk the Wylie QB  gets an offer from the coaches and they are also looking at Trevor Eickman from Garland very closely.

At OL Brock Wempa of Royce Cityand big John Noble from Rockwall continue to be evaluated and think Noble gets the edge simply because he plays a mean piano and can team up with Reagan and CGP.

Things will most likely shake out differently than this and the last slot could be almost anyone, but looks still given to JUCO RB Lyndon Rowells, JUCO DE Jacob Lattimer at Hutchinson, RB Matthew Tucker at Tyler Chapel Hill and others.

This is a very interesting class and one of the best ever at TCU if it holds and would not be surprised if coaches pulled a shocker (in a good way) at the end.

2010

Have discussed previously several of the top prospects interested in TCU including the Joeckel brothers from Arlington: QB Matt Joeckel & OL Luke Joeckel, RBs Lache Seastrunk from Temple and Traylon Shead of Cayuga, all of which should be Texas Top 100 and several on National Top 100 lists.  However the interest from big names hasn’t stopped there and visits continue from some of the best in the country.  David Durham of Lake Travis Westlake is one of the best LBers in the state and in the country and recently had a great visit with the coaches.  At 6-3/230 with 4.7 speed the kid is a beast and plays everywhere from DT, DE or LB for Westlake.

Another top athlete in the state, Darrius “Poppa” Rodgers of the high flying attack at Edgewood is on the list as well as one of the best dual-threat QBs in the country, James Franklin of Lake Dallas.

It is almost unbelieeeevable the amount of interest there is in the TCU program and its coaches by the best of the young athletes out there today which definitely bodes well for the program for many years to come.  We all owe CGP and his staff a very special thanks.

Plenty of recruits watch TCU overwhelm SDSU

As many fans fretted over the trio from Maud visiting the Razorbacks, the Horned Frogs had their own group of highly sought after prospects on campus.  TCU hosted around 40 prospects and commits for the 2009 and 2010 classes last weekend for the San Diego State game and they were treated to not only great weather and a huge victory but also the excessive commentary from a certain frog fan who seemed to imbibe more than his fair share of adult beverages.

Commits such as Casey Pachall, Ty Horn, John Woolridge, Tanner Brock, and Eric Tausch were on hand to watch the Frog victory and several also brought some fellow teammates to get a closer look from the coaches.  Ty travelled with Waco Midway speedster John Hubert, Casey brought Brownwood receiver Parker Taylor and runningback Rashad Deal and Tanner brought is brother, Cooper a 2010 linebacker prospect.  2009 Belton linebacker Kyle Voss also was in attendance.

A few of the 2010 names to watch in addition to Cooper Brock that were in attendance are the Joeckel twins, Matt & Luke from Arlington High and big Austin Weatherford from Maypearl.  Matt Joeckel is a highly recruited QB and Luke is getting lots of looks at offensive line.  They have a sister currently attending TCU on a volleyball scholarship.  Matt was the Chevy MVP of the week after the Arlington v Lamar game (video: http://www.prepticket.com/video/school/arlington–arlington–texas–hs/id/823292:Video:66461)

Austin Weatherford was an All-District offensive lineman as a sophmore and has continued to grow.  The 6-4/275 tackle is already high on the coach’s lists along with Luke Joeckel.

As far as John Dunbar, Ray Burns and Bryant House, they got to see Tim Tebow and Percy Harvin take it to the Hogs, but came back to Texas still high on TCU.

As for the TCU fan, please stay away from the recruits in the future.

Top 2010 running backs with TCU interests

Arguably two of the top running backs for 2010 in the state and probably in the country have a legitimate interest in the TCU Horned Frogs.  Lache Seastrunk of Temple and Traylon Shead of Cayuga definitely have an eye on the Frogs and the Frogs have an eye on them.  They lead a strong group of running backs that have an interest in TCU.

Lache Seastrunk has been tabbed an internet sensation and those who have seen his videos know why.  This kid is not just a phenominal athlete but a person who has overcome the hardship of being abandoned by his parents.  His brother is a baseball player at Rice and they have been raised by their grandmother and uncle.  Seastrunk runs a 10.68 100 and has a 40″ vertical and that athleticism carries over well to the football field.  As a sophmore he had over 1,500 yards rushing averaging almost 12 yards per carry.  This year in Temple’s loss to Plano he had 14 carries for 145 yards and an 84 yard touchdown run.  Lache looks to be a lock for LSU or UT, but in a recent Texas Preps article (9/2008) Seastrunk volunteered that TCU was one of the few schools that he is closely watching.

Traylon Shead is often described as the next Adrian Peterson, he’s another East Texas running back with size and speed. At 6-2/205 and with 4.5 speed, Traylon has the attributes coaches crave.  As a sophmore he rushed for over 2,800 yards and has set his sights on reaching the 3,000 yard marker in 2008.  His dad is his high school principal and his twin brother is a defensive lineman at Cayuga.  Traylon has TCU listed as one of his top schools, though seems to be mostly drawn to TAMU.

Other top running backs in the class of 2010 include Flower Mound Marcus’ Stephen Hopkins and Klein Collins’ JaMichael Rozier.  Hopkins so far this year has 664 yards rushing on 122 carries and 8 TDs.  Rozier is the son of the former Nebraska great Michael Rozier and the speedster helped Klein Collins to jump to a 2-0 start before Ike interrupted the season.

Lache Seastrunk 5-10/184/4.4 Temple, TX The next “Tornado”, Lache (pronounced Lake) is one of the highest recruited RBs in the country.  Tremendous speed and power. Watch his highlight reel and you will understand the excitement about this young man:

Traylon Shead 6-2/205/4.5 Cayuga, TX Another top RB for 2010 and coaches focusing on him as the big RB for this class.

JaMichael Rozier 5-8/170/4.5 Klein, TX (Collins) Son of Michael Rozier
