With 6 commits this class already taking shape

Posted on November 30, 2007

Six commits doesn’t look like every much but with a clas size of around 18 and with the offers on the board a lot has become much clearer about the intentions of the TCU staff with this group.

The commits so far:

Commits:

So how do the 12 slots left look to shake out.  First it has become apparent that they intend to load up on JUCO talent using with 4 or 5 of those slots at RB, WR, OL, DE, and CB.  The primary targets appear to be:

A few of the second options from the JUCO ranks (and possibly 1st now) are:

So that leaves about 7 spots left for incoming freshman.  It looks like those will be filled by a RB, FB, WR, LB, CB, Ath, and a K.  This may change a little depending on the commits for example if they don’t get the kicker they want they may get another WR or S.   Also they may be able to get 19 in this group and add another DT.  At the top of the list appear to be:

And some of the additional options are:

Running back

Fullback

Wide receiver

Linebacker

Cornerback

Athletes:

Lots of talent still out there and the TCU staff looks to be putting together another great class.

The mst complete list of TCU recruits anywhere:

YOUR ON TOP OF IT. GREAT INFO. THANKS

question– why the concentration on JUCO this year? Is it present-needs, or present-opportunities? Or both?

  3. Steve Heineman   November 30, 2007 3:28 pm

on a scale from 1 thru 10–(10 be highest)
where whould you rate this group as of now?

I hope our coaches are judicious in using junior college players and continue to build primarily with freshmen. I don’t see the need, for example, for a juco cornerback when we will have Sanders and Priest as juniors next year with Iboloye and McCoy behind them. A JC safety I could see, in case the freshmen we signed last year aren’t ready. Are we still after Ramar Watson?

    Burner-

We have some great corners but they are still young and inexperienced behind Sanders & Priest. The JUCO fills that gap, and TCU does not appear to have Watson very high on the list.

    Hey Steve-

Thanks for the question and it is a system issue that we require approval. basically the site gets hammered with spam daily and hard, but any legit question we would allow. Unfortunately haven’t figured out an automatic way of distinguishing some of the spam from legit questions.

As far as grading the class so far? I assume you mean the 6 commits and I would put that class so far as meeting some immediate needs (we had to get a QB this year). Coleman & Jones are as good as they get and you will be impressed with what Dille will bring to the offense.

All are hard-working kids and very much fit the TCU model. I like the class so far, but yes there are still huge holes so hard to grade too high right now. I’d give it a 5, but this potentially could be one phenominal group. Expect a few more commits this coming weekend and possibly a very nice surprise.

    FW:

All are needed and all are very talented, so both?-present needs at OT and big RB. Crawford has shown he can take a licking and be a workhorse. Turner & Brown have been impressive when healthy, but health has been an issue.

WR is a need for depth and experience and the same at DE & CB.

However none of the JUCOs offered nor any of the others being seriously considered are being chased simply to fill a need. In others words don’t expect them to drop down the list very far if they don’t get the guys they wand simply to fill a gap. None of the gaps are that glaring.

    Feisty-
How do the frogs look with Tramain Thomas as a DB?

What about the smaller, speed athlete (ie rivas, adkins, etc)?

  11. Feisty   December 10, 2007 9:23 pm

    kaiser soze:

Tremain Thomas is just one super athlete and unfortunately I have no idea how TCU stands with him. I’ll see if I can contact him because I want to know that answer also. I know he has several offers from some decent schools, but talk to anyone within 100 miles of Winnie and ask them who is the best athlete around and you will get one answer.

I think we will get one great athlete in Adkins and really think he comes to TCU. Kid fits the mold in that he is a hard worker , great athlete and a leader. he is one of my favorites.

3 runners in the class? PM poster says 3 runners a possibility. If accurate, how would that shake out? 1 juco, 2 frosh?

    1 Big: Crawford, Other JuCo?
    1 APB: James;
    1 slasher: Adkins, Rivas, Holly

Any chance that Devin Thomas opens up with the Arkansas coaching switch? What names are missing, inaccurate?

  13. Feisty   December 13, 2007 4:31 pm

3 runners have basically been slotted with one being a ST returned/slot receiver. Hollie, Rivas, etc type.

    Feisty,

I see that you have Jocques Crawford (JC RB) listed as a commit.

We continue to hear a variety of comments regarding his current

status. Is he definitely in the Frog’s camp or is there still some

degree of uncertainty?. Your opinion will put the matter to rest.

    Thanks…

  15. Feisty   December 22, 2007 5:54 pm

    Pure Purple:

I don’t think there is anyway to put the Crawford situation to rest until he signs. He likes Houston Nutt at Ole Miss, but they have some talented youngsters already in line for next yeat in Davis (3 star RSFR), Eason (4 star So) and McCluster (3 star FR), plus Nutt has a commit from 4 star back Barksdale along with his brother.

Not sure Ole Miss has the need at RB that TCU has so I have to expect that he will sign with the Horned Frogs in Feb.

  16. Mr. Ferguson   December 27, 2007 11:51 pm

Alonzo Adams - WR - Tyler Junior College - any interest? He had a really solid season at Tyler. I remember his name being mentioned last year.

  17. Feisty   December 28, 2007 6:44 am

    Mr Ferguson:

Alonzo was all SWJCA as a freshman at Tyler with 27 receptions for 607 yards and five touchdowns. He also had a game-winning TD on an 85-yard punt return. Since he was fully-qualified out of HS he can sign early.

Not sure what the knock on Adams is because he continues to perform at a high level and yet gets very few looks. He was a finalist for Houston’s TD Club player of the year his SR year and had an offer to Tulane that was pulled because of a coaching change. He goes to Tyler and plays lights out.

He’s a good kid and would love to see TCU on him. He still has 4 years to play 3.

    Feisty,

    What’s your opinion of Yogi?

    j

  19. Feisty   January 20, 2008 1:44 pm

    Jason:

Yogi is more mobile than any QB currently at TCU and has a strong arm with a quick trigger. If he was a little bigger he’d be one of the top recruits in the State and have a lot more offers. His dad is in the 6-5 range and coaches expect him to still develop, but even if he stays at 6-1 I think his potential will be tremendous.
