Offensive Line/Tight End

Posted on January 20, 2007

Now on to the offensive side of the ball and will start with those who lead the way.

Offensive line:

Last year’s class of Marcus Cannon, Jacob Kirkpatrick, Marshall Newhouse, Ryan Sefton and Josh Vernon has already produced a regular on the OL and has lots of promise for the future.  In addition, that class really took the pressure off the coaches in recruiting for linemen this year and they were able to go after a few good ones.  Spencer Thompson (6-3/270) a two-time all-state OL and District 4-4A MVP will compete for the center position almost as soon as spring drills begin.  Jeff Olson (6-5/240) has a body frame that could easily add 40 pounds or more was a solid blocker from the TE position at McKinney North and may also move to the OL.  Do not look for any other recruits to the OL unless the coaches feel they have an extra spot and someone they cannot pss on to fill that spot.

Tight End:

As with most schools TCU uses the TE position for blocking and as a possession receiver, however they occasionally will go deep with the TE more than most and that has attracted the attention of several good recruits, including Olson.  Logan Brock (6-4/232/4.68) of Copperas Cove  is a former QB with a strong arm, but it was his speed and pass catching ability from the TE spot that earned him an offer from TCU.

I think the only way we add another OL is if we can get one of our original targets to switch.

Don’t forget about Raetz coming back next year who would have been our starting RT. Also Marrou should finally have added the size that he needs to contribute, very athletic player.

Should be a very good line. Only real question for me is LT.

Since hard recruiting news is difficult to come by, I wonder if the coaches won’t have an extra spot. Remains to be seen if they’ll have a “can’t pass'’ body to fill it. I still wonder at the lack of promising clues about JC players (now or fall) and QBs. I know you will fill this void soon. By the way, my first thought when Brock verbaled was, “Well, this may be their other big WR, whatever they call him.'’ Thanks again.

Feisty….you see Sefton moving into the LT position or will the try and use Newhouse, Cannon or somebody else??

One of the big question in the spring will be can Richmond take over for Taylor. I think Sefton has to move and he is a player who has worked hard since HS to compete so I see him going possibly to LT. RG may be more suited for him, but there will definitely be some experimenting. Should be a very interesting spring as several key positions will have battles going on.
